From bean to bar
Lindt & Sprüngli is a chocolate manufacturer that produces its own cocoa mass from the cocoa beans it sources (excluding Russell Stover). This allows us to oversee the production process from the selection and sourcing of cocoa beans to the production of cocoa mass, also known as cocoa liquor, and the finished product – “from bean to bar.”
The Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program
Lindt & Sprüngli launched the Farming Program in Ghana in 2008 and has expanded the program to the following cocoa producing countries: Côte d‘Ivoire, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, and Peru. Through the Farming Program, we aim to contribute to creating decent and resilient livelihoods for cocoa farmers and their families and to encourage more sustainable farming practices. Since its launch, the program has expanded to 118,000 farmers and 770 field staff. We decided to implement our own Program - for the following reasons:
- Our strategic engagement with suppliers allows for adapting the program to local needs and contexts, and provides insights and learning to inform continuous improvement.
- Our sourcing model targets all our cocoa and is not limited to single end-consumer products or product groups.
- The farmers, their families, and the communities are a focus of our efforts. We want to ensure that wherever feasible they benefit directly from our financial support.

Cocoa butter and other cocoa products
Our overall goal is to source 100% of cocoa products – beans, butter, powder, and chocolate mass – through the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program or other responsible sourcing programs by 2025.
Cocoa butter is a crucial ingredient in chocolate production. In accordance with our commitment for cocoa beans, we aim to source 100% of our cocoa butter through the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program or other responsible sourcing programs by 2025. In 2024, almost 80% of cocoa butter was sourced through these programs.
In 2024, more than 60% of our cocoa powder was sourced through the Farming Program or other responsible sourcing programs in 2024.
