The invention of Lindor
The extraordinary creativity and passion that the Lindt Master Chocolatiers devote to new chocolate creations know no bounds, as the worldwide bestseller Lindor shows. The 1940s were coming to a close when the Master Chocolatiers were tasked with creating a brand-new kind of chocolate experience. By 1949, the recipe was finalized. The first Lindor chocolate bar featuring a thin, crispy shell and a smooth-melting filling was put on the market in Switzerland.
It was not until 20 years after the invention of the Lindor bar that the ball started rolling – the Lindor truffle was invented as a Christmas ornament in 1967. Today, Lindor is available in around 15 formats – from truffles, bars and sticks to heartwarming seasonal offerings for Valentine’s Day or Christmas.

Lindor flavors – from classic “Milk” to “Gingerbread Spice”
Since its first creation more than 75 years ago, Lindor has been a success. Originally intended as a Christmas tree ornament, the Lindor truffle is now a year-round favorite around the world, available in more than 35 different flavors. The classic “Milk” is still the most popular Lindor truffle, closely followed by the traditional “White”, “60% Cocoa”, and “Noisette” flavors.
With passion and a keen sense for trends, the Lindt Master Chocolatiers are constantly creating new, country-specific varieties. For example, people in the Unites States prefer Lindor truffles with a caramel, peppermint, or pecan filling, or seasonal flavors such as “Milk Peppermint Cookies”, “Fudge Swirl”, or “Gingerbread Spice”. People in Asia love Lindor truffles with Matcha, and Italians enjoy them with hazelnuts. Even after 75 years, the Lindor truffle remains one of Lindt & Sprüngli’s most successful chocolate creations. More than 7 billion Lindor truffles are produced every year.
